Emma was born at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA on Easter Sunday. She was diagnosed with a mitral valve defect and an atrial-septum defect when she was 18 months old. This web site explains the condition, the treatment, and Emma's general well-being through the years. It is meant mostly to convey information to extended family members. But others are welcome too.

It has been 13 years since Emma's first surgery where she received a complete atrial-septum repair and a partial mitral valve repair. It has been 7 years since Emma's second surgery where she received another partial mitral valve repair, substantially reducing the amount of regurgitation into the left auricle.
